Unit Overview
The Unit Overview includes the CASAS competencies for the unit, time frame, goals for the
unit, suggested activities, connected activities, and supplemental resources.
CASAS Competencies
The curriculum aligns with designated CASAS competencies.
Time Frame
This is a suggested time frame. It is based on a 3-hour class period, 3 days a week, from
mid-September to mid-June. It may involve more or fewer days depending on your class,
program, or district demands.
Goals for the Unit
The goals for the unit are correlated with the Unit Summary and the suggested activities.
Suggested Activities
Each unit includes a Unit Pre-test, Post-test and student activity worksheets (“Materials
needed”). Worksheets may be copied.
Connected Activities
Suggested guest speakers and field trips.
Note that in Unit 1 Introduction, a field trip may not be appropriate.
Field trips may require transportation funds.

While these curriculum units are designed to function independently of a text, the
following may be used as supplemental resources and referenced for further study by the
